Best Beatles Songs

Updated on March 15, 2008

The Fab Four Known as The Beatles

Hot and Cold for the Beatles

I hope that I'm not drawn and quartered for this statement, but I'm not a huge fan of the Beatles. No doubt they had talent, no doubt they were one of the best bands ever, no doubt they produced many songs that were musical masterpieces.

So then, why don't I consider myself to be a huge Beatles fan? I guess it's because out of the songs by the Beatles that I dislike, I absolutely despise them. I have a physically violent reaction to some songs by the Beatles. On the other hand, there are some songs by the Beatles that are my all-time favorite songs. I have a true love-hate relationship with the Fab Four.

Pondering the Best Beatles Songs

I decided to try to come up with my number one favorite Beatles song. Guess what? I simply couldn't. There are so many beautiful Beatles ballads. But I have narrowed my favorite Beatles songs down to two. Here they are.

Beatles Rubber Soul Album

Favorite Beatles Song - In My Life

In My Life literally brings tears to my eyes, even decades after hearing it for the first time. This Beatles song expresses so well the feelings of love and loss. It is sentimental without being sappy or cheesy. In My Life also showcases the talents of all of the Beatles, not just the main singer.

It is rumored that In My Life was written after one of John Lennon's friends from childhood died. His name was Stuart Sutcliff, and he was originally in the Beatles band.

In My Life is a classic song that transcends time. I can see it being played at weddings, funerals, and graduations decades from now.

Best Beatles Song Runner-Up - Eleanor Rigby

My second choice for the Best Beatles song is Eleanor Rigby. This song is short because it says all it needs to in its powerful lyrics. The lyrics are so haunting and sad as they tell the story of Eleanor Rigby. It evoked imagery that I have never forgotten. Some of the best songwriting you will ever hear are contained in these powerful lyrics

An interesting bit of trivia about Eleanor Rigby is that it is the only rock song to use a string quartet as the only musical instrument accompaniment. Listen carefully. Eleanor Rigby doesn't even have drums.

Your Favorite Song by the Beatles?

Trying to decide on the best Beatles song was a tough decision, much more difficult than I thought it would be. Do you agree with my choices?

If not, what is your choice for favorite Beatles song? Try to narrow it down to no more than two, just to make it interesting. Let me know in the comments section below.
