Sometimes I get a hankering for something sweet, and I just don't want to wait for it to bake, or it's too hot to use the oven. Sure, I could grab a candy bar or go buy something to satisfy my sweet tooth. But why should I when I have all of the ingredients to make a delicious homemade cake, and I can be eating it before I would get to the store?
How? I make cakes in the microwave! And I don't use a convection microwave oven, just a plain ole microwave. Here is how to make a cake in the microwave oven:

How to Make a Cake in the Microwave - Preparation
First, use your basic cake recipe ingredients or cake mix. I would
suggest avoiding light colored cakes. This is because microwaves don't
brown. So if you make a light cake in the microwave, it may look a
little weird and unappealing. If you are going to frost the cake, this
should not be a huge problem.
Mix up the batter normally.Then,
pour the cake batter into a greased, microwave safe dish. You can use a
bowl or whatever you wish. I use a pie pan. It turns out to be like a
single layer, small cake- perfect for a snack.
How Long Does It Take to Bake a Cake in the Microwave Oven?
The timing for
the cake will vary. It depends on many factors- the size of the cake,
the type of cake, the size of your microwave, and its wattage. For my
particular microwave oven, I cook my cake in the microwave for 8 minutes
on high. I would check the cake after 5 minutes if you've never made a
cake in your microwave before.
After it has cooked, leave it in
the microwave oven for about an extra 5 minutes. This allows it to
continue to cook for a bit more.

Then, take it from the
microwave. Turn it out onto a cake plate and allow the cake to cool.
After it has thoroughly cooled, you can frost it or whatever you would
normally do.
As for me, I usually just eat it warm out of the
microwave with no frosting. I do sometimes top it with ice cream if I'm
feeling particularly sinful. I have also made two cakes before. After
they cooled, I turned them into a double layer cake stuffed in the
middle with whatever seemed good- cherry pie filling, whipped cream,
fruit, the possiblilities are almost endless. Enjoy!
