The Oreo Balls Recipe Is Great Because...
If you haven't tried Oreo balls, you're missing out. Oreo balls are a decadent, rich, delicious dessert . Most people make Oreo balls as a special treat for the holidays, especially Christmas. The Oreo balls recipe is sometimes referred to as the unappetizing title 'Reindeer Droppings' around Christmas time. I also like to make Oreo ball at Easter, because they remind me of chocolate Easter eggs.
If made correctly, the Oreo balls recipe will result in a slightly crunchy outer coating of either chocolate or white chocolate. The center is a gooey, delicious delight made up of crushed Oreo cookies and cream cheese.
There are several reasons why I like to make Oreo balls. First, of course, Oreo balls are sinfully delicious.
Second, they are rich enough that most people will eat only a few. So Oreo balls make great treats for parties or get togethers because they go a long way.
Third, the Oreo balls recipe is pretty inexpensive to make. Since this recipe makes about 3 or 4 dozen, it is a bargain.
The Oreo balls recipe consists of four simple ingredients. Most of us have at least some of the ingredients sitting in our kitchens already.
This is a no-bake dessert recipe! I love these types of recipes, especially during the holidays. It frees up precious space in my ovens. Even though I have two, I never seem to have enough room.
This is a make ahead dessert recipe! The Oreo balls recipe can be made ahead in a couple of ways. First, leave the Oreo cookies mixture in the refrigerator or freezer until you are ready to dip them in chocolate. Or go ahead and make them and then put them back in the refrigerator or freezer to eat whenever you like. The Oreo balls will keep in the freezer for about 3 or 4 months. Be sure to store Oreo balls chilled in an airtight container or sealed plastic bag.
The last reason that I keep the Oreo balls recipe in my recipe file is because Oreo balls are easy to make. And the Oreo balls recipe is very versatile. It can also be adapted to contain less fat and calories. See below for variations on this easy recipe.

Oreo Balls Recipe Tips and Variations
Oreo Balls variations: Use melted almond bark or white chocolate chips instead of chocolate chips to dip the Oreo Balls.
Try different versions of sandwich cookies to make Oreo Balls- Oreo mint cookies, peanut butter sandwich cookies, or vanilla sandwich cookies are some delicious choices.Don't use double stuffed Oreos for Oreo Balls. Be sure to use regular Oreo cookies. To make the Oreo Balls a little less unhealthy, substitute low-fat Oreo cookies and low-fat cream cheese.Don't skip the shortening. It makes the chocolate slightly thinner and smoother. It is much easier to use with the added shortening.vote upvote downsharePrintflag

Oh My!
I have a son, who truly believes that Oreo cookies are one of the four main food groups! He turns grouchy when we are not only out of milk, but more importantly - OREO COOKIES! LOL
I will admit it... I have never heard of this recipe before. But most certainly I will make these this week while he is on Spring break and I will report back from the best critic I know when it comes to anything with the name "Oreo" attached to it.
These sound wonderful... and they better be! Or we are both in trouble... LOL

My mom made this around Christmas! They're GREAT!
Oh my word! These sound WONDERFUL!! I need to pass this recipe on to my sister. She's the dessert-maker in the family. ;)
I must try these! I love to make the Reese's peanut butter balls like this so these should be just as easy. The only problem I have had with the Reese's balls is keeping them from getting eaten before they are dipped. I would think I will have the same problem with these, right? LOL. Thanks for the recipe! Adding this to my recipe folder from the HubLove contest!

These sound so incredible! We will definitely try this recipe! Thanks for sharing.
Oh, and I'd like to add to anyone thinking about making them, that you can't taste the cream cheese.
Thumbs up!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Whitney! But it wouldn't bother me if we could! I could eat a truckload of the stuff just spread on an English muffin! MMMMM
Bonnie
Gee these sound yummy. I had never heard of them before. have to try them out thanks for sharing
Yummy. Thank you.
Mon.
I've never heard of Orea balls. They sound awesome!! I can't wait to try them.
Wow!!! These definitely go into the dessert rotation! Thanks!
Looks Great. Now I’m hungry
Just found this page today, printed it and made them for my daughter's birthday dinner as a bonus dessert. Everyone loved them! Definitly will make them over and over again in the future.
My school teaches the students how to make Oreo Balls in Advanced Foods class. Those things are amazing.
Try using 'lollipop sticks' and these oreo balls are easy to eat and they look nice on a tray! The chocolate melts nicely and they aren't as messy when they are at room temperature.
These Oreo balls are soooooo yummmmy!!!! Another easy no bake added to my recipe list!
Just had these over Thanksgiving - SOOO good. I'm taking them to the annual cookie exchange!
Who the hell cares if you have two ovens or not enough room or whatever. Does it make you feel better knowing that you shared that knowledge with everyone? Nobody cares. Just get to the recipe. jesus...
Simon - you gotta let it go.
I have might a slightly different verson without the shortening and with Almond Bark. They are still great without the shortening but it is harder to mix together. They are a hit every time I make them!
OMG
This is the best ever!!! last year i ate so much i got sick and i still wanted more they are great
OH MY GOODNESS THESE COOKIES ARE THE BOMB ! ! ! ! ! !
I make these for special occassioons. My son and neice and nephews love them. They also want me to make them for their birthdays. I love them too. Maybe to much.
Everyone needs to make this recipe. So easy and surprisingly delicious. A friend made some for our Christmas party and they were the first item GONE.
Good luck and happy eating.
My son's girlfriend made these for our family Christmas get-together. They were absolutely delicious, which is why I'm looking for the recipe. (and everyone gave the girlfriend rave reviews as well!)
These I ate on Valentine's Day with red drizzled on the white chocolate! they were the best present ever! Simon please keep your comments to yourself from now on, it made me ill and nauseous. I loved her passion for her recipe and you are just a sick individual.

I'm making these for Easter but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make these for Easter-y or more colorful! Can't wait!
These look so good. Think I might try them. Thanks
These are definitely delicious. I had them at a tea a few days ago... my word, we had a few dozen and within an hour they were all gone!
I ate thest at a party yesterday and I couldn't get enough. I decided I had to make them for a few of my upcoming parties and for my family! (:
Thanks for helping make that possible. (:
We submitted this recipe in a contest at Falls Creek and won first place. These are fantastic!
This sounds as if it might kill me. Yum !
Hi - I had these recently at a employee luncheon...they were great so of course I had to make them. It's a done deal and their in the fridge right now. If anybody out there has made them I need an opinion. I had a difficult time dipping in the chocolate but managed with a toothpick in each one. Then I ran out of the chocolate chip dip and had to melt another cup of them to finish, 40 balls in all. Any suggestions?
haha, I never thought I'd see people arguing over a candy recipe.
"ugh, I don't know how to scroll past an introduction"
"your comments make me feel sick"
"shut up"
"no you shut up"
Anyway, awesome recipe. Thanks for posting it.
Oh goodness...these sound delicious... Im going to have to give these a shot.
I did, and they are a HUGE hit! Thanks!
"Chill for at least 2 hours in the freezer. Then roll Oreo cookie mix into one inch Oreo Balls."
Do we really chill in the freezer? Or did you mean refrigerator? Seems like they'd be too hard to roll if they were chilled in the freezer. Please clarify. Thanks.
Are you supposed to remove the cookie filling before crumbling up the cookies?
Just a curiosity question:
You state that we shouldn't use dubble stuffed Oreos for this receipe, but then suggest using Oreo mint cookies and the peanut butter variety right above it... Those are double stuffed variety.
So is there a reason you suggest not using double stuffed? Have you actually tried double stuffed with poor results? Have you tried the "flavored" varieties of Oreos with good results?
I'm thinking I'd like to try the mint Oreos, but I'm hesitating because they are double stuffed.
Any insight?
Personally, I stick them in the refrigerator, as they do get a little hard to roll in even balls when in the freezer. Also, when you use the double stuff oreos, the will 'melt' faster than when you only use regular oreos. When they begin to come to room temp using double stuff they kinda lose shape and begin to look weird... Yikes! Good luck!
Probably a stupid question...but i was just curious. When you crush up the oreos, do you take out the white filling before or crush them with it inside?
OMGOSH!
i love these
my aunt makes these every christmas along with carmel cheetos..i know they sound gross but OMGOSH they are amazing!!
yummmy!
this is making me hungry :D
thanks,
ME
We made these for a bake sale fundraiser, and sold every single one at a high price. They are wonderful, to say the least!
You do not have to take the white out of the Oreos before making them.
I actually just put the oreos in my food processor until they are crushed up and then add the cream cheese...no fuss...no muss!! It is very easy that way!
my friends mom made these all the time and i didnt know how to do it but i figured i should try to make them myself and they were kinda tricky with the cream cheese but hopefully they come out good. they are in the freezer right now "chillen"
What happens if. You use double stuffed oreos?
double stuffed melt in room temp causing them to take on odd shapes. don't use as much shortening and that wont happen.
My great-nephew's girlfriend brought them to my sister's on Thanksgiving and we all LOVED them and her. First time I'd met her but I told her as far as I was concerned, she was part of the family!!
You don't need shortening, too fatty, use milk or cream in the chocolate it gives it the same consitency.
my sister made these for TG dinner dessert and it was DELICIOUS! i ate too many and need to be on weight watchers now! ;)
they are awsome do you know where to find a reipe
these sound good. i bet using butter instead of shortening would be fine. or even a splash of heavy cream. im gonna make em soon! :)
These are amazing!!! They are great for parties or just for fun!!! These are my favorite treats!!!
Roll the chocolate dipped balls in crushed peppermint sticks for a yummy Christmas treat.
i havent been dating my boyfriend that long, and im going to his christmas dinner with his entire family. they are all amazing cooks and i want to impress them. so im bringing the dessert.
i made them tonight to test it, and oh my word they're amazing!
Been making these for the past 2 years OMG the hit of every party. I switch it up a bit, chocolate oreo's dip in white chocolate, and then white oreo's dip in dark chocolate. I use the almond bark chocolate, and I never tried adding the shortening. A trick I did find was to make sure the oreo balls were very cold before dipping into chocolate , other wise cookie will fall apart. I let the balls set for a hour before dipping....just a small tip.
I just had one of these today and it was to die for!!!!!!! Unbelievable. My husband didn't want me to have one for fear I would start making them...and he is diabetic. Sorry Hubby the oreos win out!
I had these at a work party and they were wonderful. I decided to make them for my family X-mas party tomorrow and this is the one and only time I will make them! They are very time consuming, messy and expensive to make. One recipe made 45 balls (which won't go very far with my family) and cost $7!
Last year in one of my oreo ball batches I tried adding some cream to make the chocolate easier to work with. DO NOT attempt this. It makes it so that the chocolate won't harden. You will end up with sticky balls of goo that nobody wants to eat. Shortening is really the best solution to this problem. Thanks for all the input! I'm really excited about my cookie exchange this year!
My kids love the Oreo balls...every year they ask me to make them, especially around the holidays. The school that I work for practically beg me to make them. They are so delicious. I have used regular choc and white choc for the coating.
i'd say these are really good treats. a food prep class taught these, yumm.
i never made these before but i love them
I go to college in Wisconsin and live on an all girls floor. I had never heard of these until a girl a few rooms down brought them back from home one weekend. Let's just say everytime she comes back with them her room is flooded with girls begging for more! They are soo yummy! Haha and the perfect fix to a chocolate craving!
your oreo balls were so good I just had to eat them all it is like eating patoe chips you cant stop eating them. that is how great they are and also so easy to make too.
Love eating these but hated making them. Used shortening and chocolate was too thick. More I tried to thin it the worse it got.
My best friend made some for work and saved a few for me. I stayed at her house and ended up waking up in the middle of the nite craving them!
I'm not a big fan of sweets. ( I would rather have another steak while everyone is ordering dessert.) But this sounds like something I might really like. Thanks for sharing.
i dont use shortening and i use double stuffed oreos....mine take bout 10 min to make so quick i love it but it in a bowl get the mixer roll them up and out the door i go they make quite the mess making but who cares tasty and quick
Can you make the oreo balls and freeze them (without rolling them in anything) and make them for a later date? If so, how long can you keep them in the freezer? Thank you.
I had these for the first time this Christmas and they are so so good! I will be making some soon.
They are great!!!!!!!!!!!
I just tried these @ christmas and let me tell u ..I AM ADDICTED!!! They are sooo good, but very rich, i can only eat 1 or 2 @ a time...this is a must try for anyone who hasnt!!!
Ok, I heard so much about these that I finally made them and must admit that I must not be as big an oreo lover as everyone else. Did not care for them. May try again and use more cream cheese.
My friend makes these every year for Christmas and they are my absolute favorite holiday cookie. She adds a little mint extract which adds just a little extra flavor. Just enough for a hint of mint.
JUST FOUND THIS RECIPE AND PLAN ON MAKING THEM SOON. I THINK YOU CAME UP WITH A GREAT IDEA. WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW MY FAMLIY LIKES THEM.
I've tried these oreo balls..my daughter made them and I loved them..now I have to make them for myself
Found your recipe and bought the stuff last night. Making them today for my daughter who loves Oreos! Cute valentine gift for her. By the way she is 32 but still a little girl with an oreo smile! Thank you for this recipe
omg thanks so much 4 the receipe it awsome !!!!!!!
these are amazingg
Awesome! had them at a baby shower, so good...especially since its a no-bake recipe I'm sure I can do this. I believe Oreos are part of the 4 main food groups. so yummy, enjoy! :)
I just melt some chocolate bark coating instead of using the chocolate chips and shortening. MUCH, MUCH easier...and WAY faster! Just put some squares of the bark in my 3-cup glass measuring cup...microwave it until its melted (stirring evrey 10 secons or so)...easy peazy lemon squeezy!
Oh my gosh this is the first time i've hard of these. I will definately try this very soon. I love oreo's can't wait to try it. thank you for sharing this.
omigosh they`re the most awsomest thing in the world i could die for these if my mom would let me eat the ones in the refrigerator already
AH! My friend made these for a "How To" speech and they were fantastic! I really loved them, but he didn't say to use shortening. Diffrent recipe maybe? Everything else was the same.
Making them tonight! Come back and tell you how it went!!
I just had the oreo balls on easter oh my thy are by far the best trea i have hed in long time
I tried these for the first time yesterday, and they are absolutely AMAZING! They are definitely my new favorite. :)
These are heavenly, thanks for the recipe
Wow, my mouth is watering! Thanks for sharing!
YUM!
had these first in highschool. and still making them in colleg
I'm getting ready to make these for the first time. Was wondering if anyone ever tried adding a touch of Rum or Bourbon to them...
Yummy! These sound awesome!
We call these "Riendeer poop" during Chistmas. Everyone always say, "I love that poop". It's sounds gross but people get a big kick out of it!
Oops, Christmas!!!
First timer question: do you remove the "filling" from the oreo before you crush it? Or crush the entire cookie?
Thanks!
I made these acording to the instructions. They Did not turn out exactly right. They need more detail when it comes to the melted chocolate, rolling the balls, and how much the oreos need to be crushed. These were very stressfull to make.
These are sooo good! I'm about to make them for my second time and I LOVE them. Haven't tried them with milk chocolate yet, only white, which I think is the way to go.
Wow, some people are so rude! I am glad that your recipe is here! I have been looking for this since I had them at a work Christmas party!! They are so amazing! I am so excited to make them!! Thank you for sharing this!
I made this for a girls weekend and what a hit! WE had a wild animal theme and They were called monkey balls.. My recipes says to save out 9 cookies crush these and save. then crush the rest and add 8 oz cream cheese at room temp.Mix with mixer then roll into 1" balls. refrig for 30 min to get cold and melt your chocolate bark in the mean time and then use a fork to roll them around and let the chocolate drip off and place on wax paper cookie sheet. Sprinkle with the reserved cookie crumbs.. Soo easy and they look great someone asked me where I bought them. Refrig till serving. I didnt have a problem and it was 90 degrees and humid
I made these and there sooo good my 1 year old son went crazy on them I liked to never got him to take a nap...but if your wanting something really sugary and good make these!!!
A friend of mine made these for a party once, and they were delicious! She now makes them for any big gatherings we have, mostly due to popular demand, but I've been dying to be able to make them at home. Thanks for the awesome recipe!
So amazing!! I'm making them as we speak, my friend made them last week. Heaven in my mouth!! Haha. :D
Thanks for the recipe guys!
I just made these today, only changed it a little. I couldn't find the mint oreos (my fav) so I put some mint extract in the oreo and cream cheese mix. Then I used Andes mint pieces (baking aisle), without adding the shortening. They turned out so yummy, I don't want to quit eating them!
Oh yeah they're way good! I use almond bark instead of chocolate! Always the hit of the party!
my kids love these but thy call them doo doo balls lol
Sounds delicious .. I think I will try 'em with Cindy's twist !
I have made these for the past couple of years and they are always a HIT!!!!!!! This is now the one thing I am required to bring to family functions....lol. Simple and taste great I love the mint but the regular oreo's are great to. If you are in a pinch and need to fix something cheap and easy this is great and they go a long way unless you have my bunch...lol Happy Thanksgiving to all.
I've made these many times and they are very delicious. As only eating a couple....well I definitely need to contain myself and my kids when it comes to these. They are a welcome treat during that not so enjoyable time of the month as well when you have cravings late in the evening!! LOL. A must for any get together. Easy to make and everyone enjoys them. We opt for them as well due to my daughter's nut allergies so peanut butter balls are not an option for us.
These have been a holiday favorite for a few years - my only tip is to shave about 2 Tablespoons of wax(yes wax, the kind you put on top of jelly jars) to the chocolate for coating to make it a little shiny and it sets up a little better.
I bought these at a dessert auction at my church and they are Heaven in a ball. Love these and plan on making them for my goodie boxes for family and friends this holiday season.
Students at school made these & shared some with me. They are fabulous!!! The students called them "Crack Balls" because they are better them crack. I plan to make them for this year's holiday goodie bags for neighbors!
I have made these many times before. I definitely suggest using the Chocolate Almond Bark instead of chocolate chips and shortening. The bark comes in white, milk, and dark chocolate varieties and it hardens as it cools making it much easier to use and very yummy. I love the idea of rolling the dipped balls in crushed oreo crumbs. That would give it a different texture. Sounds great!
I've had these yummies at work parties and such, they're fantastic. I wanted to add them to my cookies trays that I give as gifts but I had a concern. The recipe states to store them in an airtight container but with cream cheese in them I'm a little concerned. I don't want to give family and friends food poisoning! Should they be stored in the fridge? Any thoughts?
To die for.........YUM
mmmmmmmmm
I love these things! My maw maw made these now im going to make some!(:
I want to bring these to a cookie exchange...do I need to tell others that they need to be stored in the refrigerator when they bring it home? How long can these sit out? Will it melt if left out? Thanks!

I ate so many one Christmas I puked the whole next day! It was worth it!
Sorry for posting twice... But it was really worth it! I now only eat a few at Christmas so it doesn't happen again. Man can't wait to make some this Christmas and dare some family members to eat as many as I did! They are the best! Yummy for my upset tummy!
That same Christmas I threw one at a buddy and straight up tagged him hard in his eye! I'm talking blood and tears! I felt so bad I let him throw one back at me... He missed! I now call a sally! Thanks Oreo balls! You made our Christmas!

At my school, students go crazy for oreo balls.
I met this guy once who called it 'Jesus Poop' and it stuck to me. Hahaha
Everytime I see someone with them I yell out 'jesus poop!'
They are soooooo good!
aka BLAIR BALLS
these are the best things ever!
yeah they are!! loe i like that name
*joe my bad
wonderful,I added Hazelnuts to it
I have been making these for a couple of years now and everybody loves them. We call them skunk balls, but I like the reindeer droppings and the Jesus poop better!!
my mom made these and gave me the recipe can't wait to make these for christmas very delicious
Wow...so these are really good and I use white chocolate chip morsels by nestle and at christmas I use green and red food coloring and make red and green oreo balls. and FYI seriously?1?1....this is supposed to be about recipes not the freakin want ads!! why do people feel the need to post random freakin comments tryin to hook up with people?? Get a LIFE!!
But really though, the oreo balls are AWESOME!!!
Use 1/3 stick of gulf wax instead of shortening... it makes the coating shiny and sets better and adds a nice little crunch. YUM YUM!
these are defintily going on my dinner table for our christmas feast!
these arent very good
Just whipped up a batch but had the smaller package of Oreos - really now - WHY would they even have a smaller size package ? But added a few Chips Ahoy to make up the difference with an extra T. of cream cheese - yum-ohh
These are amazing!! I tried them just a few weeks ago and they are my favorite treat to snack on all year round:)YUMMMMMMMYY!!!!!
it looks like old dog poop after it dries, but theyre good. n/buttcrack
i was just at a family/friend gettogether and there were these oreo balls there and i wat like 12 of them cuz the lady that was hosting the party just kept bringing them out.tray after tray.....
it was like hevan... :)
whatever moro or whatever his name is..... well he lies
these are soooooooooooooooooo good dont listen to him ...!
Valentines day is just around the corner and I plan on making these for each and every one of my friends!
These are the best thing that I have ever tasted.. I sampled one from a friend, I couldn't believe how good..
So I'm so glad this recipe is on the net.. I really can't wait to make them... Again thanks alot !!
I want to mail these to another state. Will they hold up and not spoil?
They probably will spoil because of the cream cheese. Maybe if you try substituting it for something else, or make cake balls instead? They're almost exactly the same as oreo balls, except you use cake instead and no cream cheese.
My friend said to google this recipe and this looks like the best one to try....THANKS! :D
well i live in canada and i was wondering where exactly i can buy oreo cookie mix? b.t.w is there any other substitute for oreo cookie mix?
I love these things!I wanted to make some but I didn't have the recipe but now I do!THANKS:D
Do you have to dip the oreo ball's in the chocolate so it hardens or can you just roll them up and keep them in the fridge. Or can you drizzle the chocolate over the top not completely dipping the entire oreo ball in the chocolate?
let go mutha fucka!!!
awful!!!!! gross
I made these they are so good yumn
How many does this recipe make?
Wow I almost went to heaven whe I tasted Oreo balls
I can't want to see how these turn out. I had them at church a few years ago, tried to make them and DISASTER!! I didn't add cream cheese or freeze them before dipping. I think this will make all the difference!! THANKS FOR SHARING and GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!
These are a wonderful and easy dessert to make around the holidays! And they're so yummy! Kids & Adults both love these. Instead of shortening, I use butter and it works great. Easy, fun and so tasty! :)
Love the recipe
this is really good
yu,mhg,mnb,hhlhlhlhlhbl
This has been a family favorite for years. I now make so.e using the mint oreos... OMG... soooo good!
WHAT A DISASTER. The cookie will leave brown crumbs in the white chocolate. The white coating doesn't cover evenly and looks horrible. They fall off the toothpicks, the cookies will fall apart. I threw mine out..too embarrassed to take them to work.....
maybe if u add some maraschino cherries in the center?think it would be great!im going to try them and post again...
Up here in the NW we call them Jesus droppings at Easter. Yum they are heavenly.

These sound good! When I need some decadence, I'll have to remember this recipe.
