Raccoon Pictures

I have adored raccoons ever since I stayed at my uncle's farm one summer when I was little. He had rescued an orpan baby raccoon and raised it. He was the smartest, most adorable pet ever. We took so many pictures of that raccoon that he probably had his own photo album.

Don't be fooled by the adorable appearance of a raccoon, however. Raccoons are formidable animals in the wild. They are fierce fighters and could cause severe injury. I would not recommend keeping a raccoon as a pet or trying to capture a raccoon. But if you enjoy watching raccoons, here are some of the cutest raccoon pictures on the web.

Angela,

You certainly brought back some fond memories. At our previous residence, we had this wonderful back yard that was home to about 20 squirrels. I loved to feed them and watch them. We started to notice that any food that was left over was gone the next day. One night we caught sight of the bandit. It was a family of raccoons. Well we started feeding them also. After a short time, if there was not food out of the patio for them, one would come to the back french door and paw on it.

But we also had a heart breaker. One we named Limpet, because he had some real trouble with balance and walking. We were very concerned for him when we moved.

We also learned that mother raccoons make their young fend for themselves very early. We were watching a young one try to take some of mom's food. She let him (it) know very clearly that he had to learn to fend for himself. She was not sharing.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

John, that is such a great story. I hope Limpet made it all right after you left. But raccoons are tough little creatures and really smart. He was probably just fine.

I live in Iowa and rescue baby raccoons every spring. Everyone calls me the raccoon lady. It never fails, each spring I get at least one phone call from someone who has found an abandoned baby. I absolutely love them!! I release them all back into the wild when they are ready, eventually they all go on their merry way. I had one that came back to have her litter in my garage. There are alot of trappers here, it just makes me sick to know these animals are trapped for their fur. They are so smart with great personalities! The most fun, always keeping us on our toes with new tricks and constantly laughing at their antics. You just can't keep them too long, they can get very mean and destructive as they get older.
