Rum and Coke Drinks

Updated on February 25, 2008

Rum and Coke How-to

Rum and Coke is one of the most popular cocktail drinks. However, some people are unsure how to go about mixing a rum and Coke. To be honest, it is basically just a matter of taste. Dark rum is best. I would recommend either Captain Morgan or Bacardi rum for the smoothest cocktail drink.

How to Mix Rum and Coke

If you need a little more instruction for a rum and Coke, here goes. Fill a highball glass about 2/3 with ice cubes. Add 3 parts Coca-Cola to 1 part rum. Stir well and enjoy.

Vanilla Rum and Coke

If you would like to try a delicious variation of the basic rum and Coke, try these Vanilla Rum Cokes from Martha Stewart.com.

Vanilla Rum and Coke Ingredients - Makes 2 Vanilla Rum and Coke cocktail drinks

  • 6 tablespoons rum
  • 1 cup Coke
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 orange wedges

Fill each glass almost to the top with ice cubes. To each glass, add half of the rum, Coke, and vanilla. Squeeze the orange wedges into the cocktails and then drop them into each drink. Stir and serve. (Lime wedges are nice, too.)

Note- Vanilla Coke can be used as a substitute for regular Coke and vanilla extract for this rum and Coke variation. Or you can use Vanilla rum and regular Coke. However, try Coke with vanilla extract for the best Vanilla Rum and Coke.

Other Rum and Coke Variations

Rum goes well with lots of soft drinks and there are many types of rum.

If you're not a big fan of Coca Cola, try rum with Dr. Pepper instead of rum and Coke- tastes smooth and delicious. Mountain Dew and root beer are other soda flavors that go great with rum. If you're watching your calories, drink your rum and Coke with Diet Coke.

Of course, there are other variations of rum and Coke. Try coconut rum, diet Vanilla Coke, Cherry Coke, Spiced rum, or Banana rum for different, but delicious rum and Coke flavors.
