Sciatic Relief From Sciatica Symptoms
70Most Sciatic Relief Can Be Treated at Home
What Is Sciatica?
The majority of people will suffer from back pain at some point. Sciatica is a type of back pain that originates in the lower back region. Sciatic nerve pain can be excruciating.
Sciatica causes, or sciatica nerve pain, can be traced to many potential sources. This causes even more frustration, as doctors are unsure how to provide sciatica relief until and unless the sciatica causes are pinpointed.
However, one of the most common sciatica causes is pressure on the sciatic nerve roots. There is usually no permanent nerve damage.
Sciatica Symptoms
The sciatic nerve is actually five sets of nerves that travel from the lower back, then down the hip and back of the legs. They can cause pain in the muscles of the lower back, buttocks, hamstrings, and calves. The sciatica pain will usually originate at the lower back or the buttocks and travel past the back of one leg below the knee. These are the most common sciatica symptoms.
Other sciatica symptoms include weakness, numbness, sharp muscle cramps, or a pins and needles sensation that travels from the lower back down the back of the leg. The sciatic nerve pain may increase when you sit for long periods.Certain people are more prone to sciatica symptoms than others. These include those who lead a sedentary lifestyle or job, middle aged adults, smokers, frequent runners, and diabetics.
Sciatic Relief With Sciatica Exercises
Most sciatic relief can be treated successfully at home. Typical treatment for sciatic nerve relief includes alternating hot and cold packs when pain occurs. These are effective sciatica remedies to help ease the pain.
To treat and help prevent sciatic nerve pain, stretching sciatica exercises are often the most effective sciaticia treatment. Exercises to help strengthen the abdominal and back muscles can also greatly alleviate pain and provide sciatic relief.
Some other sciatica remedies are acupuncture, chiropractic treatments, and even sciatica surgery.
I would try the less invasive procedures before attempting sciatica surgery for relief from back pain. An overwhelming majority of people suffering from sciatica will resolve symptoms without sciatica surgery. Most people's sciatica symptoms only last a few weeks.

I had Sciatica problems before I even knew what the name for it was and only with regular exercise do I keep my back pains away.
I developed sciatica while I was pregnant for my second child,(almost 12 years ago) and I've suffered since then! I actually am recovering right now. Last weekend I was BLOW DRYING MY HAIR, and got a burning sensation, and there it went, I was on my knees, and in pain... Today, (Saturday) at least I can sit up!
Great hub! I am your fan!
Good topic in this hub. Just wanted to point out that in my experience as a chiropractor, true sciatica is rare. The actual pattern of pain is not what most people think, so everything that causes pain down the legs gets called that. We ususally see good results by spinal adjustments and some type of tracion to open up the joints if necessary. It's a good idea to have it checked. I've seen too many x-rays of people who let it go for years.
Thanks for the valuable info for back pain and sciatica.
