Learn About the Gettysburg Address Speech by Abraham Lincoln- One of the Greatest Speeches in History
Abraham Lincoln was born in poverty. True to the American dream, he died as one of the greatest men in history. Abraham Lincoln presided over our country during its darkest times. Yet he managed to keep the United States a whole. Most history experts consider Abraham Lincoln the greatest president of the United States.
One of the often overlooked facets of Abraham Lincoln's genius was his way with words. Lincoln was a sincere speaker. He had a true gift of writing. The most famous example of Lincoln's writing skills is in his Gettysburg Address. Lincoln's Gettysburg Address is one of the most frequently quoted speeches in American history.
The Gettysburg Address was given during the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was delivered in the midst of the Civil War, just months after the Confederate soldiers had been defeated at the bloody Battle of Gettysburg. The date was November 19, 1863.
The Gettysburg Address wasn't even considered important the day it was delivered. The main speaker for the event was Edward Everett, a Whig politician from Massachusetts. Edward Everett delivered his speech before Lincoln. Everett's oratory lasted for two hours. Lincoln's speech was listed as simply 'Dedicatory Remarks'.
Lincoln's speech at Gettysburg was barely over two minutes and only contained ten sentences. Yet, in that small space of time Lincoln managed to convey the United States principles of unity and equality. The speech contained lyrical phrases and haunting imagery. In this small snippet of words, Lincoln started with "a new nation, conceived in Liberty" and ended with "shall not perish from the earth".
Contrary to popular opinion, the Gettysburg Address was not hurriedly written on the way to the ceremony. Several drafts exist of the speech as well as accounts of Lincoln editing the speech beforehand.
The Gettysburg Address is now regarded as one of the best speeches in United States history. Everyone may not have the Gettysburg Address memorized, but all recognize the words "Four score and seven years ago".

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Why did Lincoln use "Four score and seven years ago"? Genesis 16:16, "Abram was four score and six years old when his son Ishmael was born" (King James Version). Over 10,000 books have been written on Lincoln and no one has correctly explained that he was referring to this Bible verse regarding the story of Abraham!
Lincoln was known as "Father Abraham". Gn 16:16 is the first time the Biblical term "score" is used in the Bible. Lincoln was the 16th President and resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave (P=16, President=16 resident). This is a proof of predestination! On July 4, 1863, Lincoln gave a speech at the White House after the Battle of Gettysburg and Vicksburg ended with Union victories. "87 years ago (on July 4th, 1776)", he said. In preparing for his brief Gettyysburg National Cemetary Dedication speech, he realized he could convert 87 years to "4 score and 7 years ago" thus referring to Father Abraham and the numerical symbolism of 7/4=July 4th. The presidet was linkin' with GOD=7_4, whereas, G is the 7th letter, a circle is either the 15th letter or zerO, and D is the 4th letter. This alphanumeric code is known as Simple(74) English(74) Gematria(74).

Thanks - very helpful.
This speech by President Abraham Lincoln is the best veiled indictment of our nation for its hypocrisy on Freedom. Lincoln grew up knowing and being deeply convinced in his soul that American slavery was evil. It was no secret to his foes and allies alike that he meant to do something about it. The perverted Christianity that was practiced in the country left him apathetic to religion in general, even though he was a student of the Bible, and he grew to be a believer in his own rights. He was deeply inspired to craft his address in political language, for the truth and the simplicity of the present reality would have never been accepted by the people around him. Nonetheless, what he said on that day was entirely biblical. Notice the points that he made in his speech and that few people question. First, “Liberty” in the first sentence is rather contrasted with “new birth of freedom” in the last sentence. If the liberty in which our country was conceived was synonymous with the freedom that was to be after the war, why would that freedom be new, and why would there have to be a rebirth? And since the US was not fighting an external oppressing enemy, why would the word freedom even be mentioned? It is obvious that Lincoln had no doubt that this war was to ensure that the US abides by its constitutional declaration that “all men were created equal,” and that the US government was doing what any government should do: protecting all its citizens from all forms of oppression, and retraining evil. A nation “conceived in Liberty” and “dedicated to the declaration that all men are created equal” cannot “endure” too “long” to remain “half slave” and “half free.” This address only emphasizes his “House Divided” speech in which he declared, “[the slavery agitation] will not cease until a crisis shall have been reached, and passed. A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free.” That is why he called not for a dedication of the ground in which the bones of the slain soldiers would be inhumed, but for a dedication of the living to the completion of the great task of seeing this war through, ending slavery, perfecting freedom, honoring the constitution, and saving the nation from further godly wrath.
