Free Third Grade Lesson Plans and Resources for Teachers and Homeschoolers

These are some of my favorite third grade lesson plans. I have homeschooled three children. All of them but one have already graduated. I would have loved to have found free third grade lesson plans when I was homeschooling. Teaching is much easier if you have a lesson plan, even if it is just a starting point for inspiration.

Included are language arts lesson plans for third grade, math lesson plans, social studies lesson plans for third graders, and third grade science lesson plans. More 3rd grade lesson plans for other subjects will be added as soon as I find time to dig through all of my old homeschool teaching materials.

New to Teaching or Homeschooling?

Beginning a teaching career or homeschooling can be very frightening. I know, as I mentioned before I've been there. However, it's been awhile since I've been homeschooling. All of my children are college age or have already graduated college.

Luckily, homeschooling has become very common, much more so than when I was teaching my own children. Most people don't do a complete Exorcise movie style head turn anymore if you mention homeschooling. Now most areas, even small communities, have homeschooling groups, activities, and even sports. Some states allow homeschoolers to participate in public school sports programs. Look up the laws for your circumstances if you are interested.

You should also look up the homeschooling laws for your state to make sure you are in compliance. Most states have much less rigid laws regarding recordkeeping, choice of study materials, etc, also than even a few years back. So check around for local resources, the internet, and the good old-fashioned library for lots of information about teaching in general and homeschooling in particular. You should find lots of information and lots of helpful people.

Decide which homeschooling teaching style suits you. Some examples are classic education, Montessori, and unschooling. There are tons of commercial curriculum choices available as books, videotapes, and computer programs. There are also homeschooling programs that are literal online schools. As I mentioned, the options are wide and varied. Just don't let them overwhelm you.

And if you're a beginning teacher, the same goes for you as well! There are tons of teaching resources available. Just sift through the ones that suit your style.
