Who Makes the Best French Fries

Updated on March 15, 2008

The Perfect French Fry

I try to stick to a healthy diet most of the time, especially after watching Super Size Me. But I do have a weakness for a delicious French fry. I have been known to drive quite a distance just for some piping hot French fries.

Lately, I've been disappointed with fast food French fries. Is it just me? Have I outgrown fast food? I don't know, but here are my votes for some of the best French fries in the business.

McDonald's French Fries

McDonalds Fries No More

In the good old days, McDonald's restaurants had the best French fries anywhere. They were always hot, crispy on the outside, and perfectly salted. It seems that quality control isn't as important to Mickey Ds anymore. The fries at McDonald's are almost always cold and usually greasy. There are always more than a few that are way past their prime and barely recognizable as a french fry. Then when they started using the new oil, that was the end of the perfect McDonald's French fries. My quest for the perfect fries has resumed.

Arby's Curly Fries

Best French Fries

After testing fries from several fast food chains, I have come up with a new best French fry winner. It is: Arby's curly fries. Is a curly fry technically a French fry? I'm not sure, but Arby's curly fries are mouthwatering good. Arby's offers regular fries as well. Don't order those- not good. But curly fries from Arby's are not greasy, deliciously crisp, and they have added seasonings other than salt. Plus eating curly fries is just plain fun.

Rally's Restaurant

Runner-Up for Best French Fries

My runner-up for best French fries is Rally's restaurants. They are also called Checker's, depending on their location. Rally's fries are similar to Arby's curly fries in that they use more seasonings than just salt. The combination is delicious. And I have yet to get a cold batch of fries from Rally's. If you ever see a Rally's or Checker's, try out their French fries. And the burgers are very good, too.

Your Suggestion for Best French Fries?

If you have a different suggestion for best French fries, let me know. I'm always up for a reason to try out new fries.
